About Us
Our Story
Stan & Kristi Morton came up with the idea for Morton Bookkeeping in 2015 at the kitchen table, while talking about life, accounting, commuting, and faith. But to understand this story, you need some context.
Kristi started her "adult" career in the banking world at a young age, over 30 years ago. She loved the numbers, finding discrepancies, but most of all, the people. You've never seen someone glow as much as she did, when she helped people with their banking. Kristi went on to be in management and then switched to corporate accounting. Working with several large organizations such as the Girl Scouts and Marriott Hotels, she again climbed the ladder to be a Controller for one of Marriott's boutique hotels in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia.
Stan got started in real estate finance. He built a small brokerage that was growing quickly, that is, up until the financial crisis of 2008. Pivoting, Stan started a real estate closing business that grew to do closings all over the US. At the same time, he was a partner in 2 different real estate start-ups. In 2013, Stan signed on as a field specialist for a national real estate investment fund. Over the next few years he rose through the ranks to be a Senior Analyst.
It was then, in 2015, that Stan & Kristi birthed the idea for Morton Bookkeeping. They wanted a way to offer bookkeeping for businesses that was easy to afford, gave exceptional service, was personal, virtual, and carried the weight and accuracy of an Accounting Executive. It was also important to focus on one software, and only small businesses to be as consistent as possible.
Today, they have a thriving business that serves over 50 different industries throughout the eastern United States. The interesting part is once someone becomes a client, they don't seem to ever leave. On average, there has been less than 10% attrition since day one. You can speculate that it could be because of the peace of mind clients have gotten, or the personal service, or the consistent accuracy, or the affordable pricing, or the convenience, or even just the way Kristi shines her light, but in reality, it's probably all of it.

Kristi is owner, controller, bookkeeper, sales, manager, customer support, shoulder to cry on, ear to bend, prayer partner, and so much more. She runs the bookkeeping side of the business and no one does it better. She is experienced, approachable, knowledgeable, patient, organized, efficient, fun and the list just goes on and on. You want Kristi in your corner when it comes to your business's finances.

Stan is owner, analyst, sales, marketing, public relations, advisor, recruiter, head problem solver, idea guy, director of "get it done". He runs the marketing, inside sales, and advanced analytics. He is calculating, compassionate, analytical, decisive, objective, kind, hyper organized, efficient, fun and so much more.
